An African Grey parrot recently went viral after his owner caught him asking “Alexa” to add pulled pork to the shopping list.
The incident was recorded and uploaded to TikTok where it was viewed nearly 13 million times.
In the clip, you can see Max the parrot looking at the camera. The 21-year-old bird says, “Alexa, add pulled pork.”
His voice impression is so good, it could’ve fooled me!
Alexa, also known as Amazon Alexa, is a virtual voice service powered by artificial intelligence that allows people to use voice commands to ask for things, like to play music or to add items to the shopping list.
It seems Max’s owner uses Alexa regularly enough that the clever parrot caught on and wanted to add his own items to the list!
Parrots are known to mimic human speech, but it’s still a surprise to hear it.
According to SeaWorld, the African Grey Parrot is one of “the most accomplished mimics.”
Scientific American reports that African Grey Parrots are known to mimic other species of birds in the wild. It only makes sense that they’d mimic other species they’re surrounded by when in captivity as well
Even so, hearing a bird add an item to a shopping list will never get old.
