In Laos, pneumonia and diarrhea are the top two killers of children under five years of age. These deadly maladies are highly preventable when access to clean water is available.
Jhai Coffee House aims to remedy this dire situation by investing two-fold in their community.
The primary crop of the Bolaven Plateau of Laos is coffee beans, yet many of the farmers are living in poverty and have never tasted their finished product. Jhai provides coffee bean farmers in the Bolaven Plateau tools and resources to grow high-quality organic beans, which Jhai Coffee house then buys for 25% above the Fair and Direct Trade price. They also work with the farmers, training them to roast the coffee and learn to taste and improve their product. Jhai then reinvests 100% of the net profits from their cafe into the community by providing clean water and sanitation.
