8. Crimson Rose Butterfly

The name is fitting for this black-and-crimson butterfly, which also has a rose-colored abdomen. Its color patterns are meant to warn predators that this butterfly shouldn’t be eaten due to the noxious plants it consumes. Every year, thousands of crimson rose butterflies are reported to swarm and migrate from their native India.

7. Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing

Rajah Brooke’s birdwing butterfly thrives in Southeast Asia. Like the Madagascan moon moth, it reaches a large size with a 6-inch wingspan. However, its most striking features are the yellow-green triangular markings that line across its black wings. Its body is also black and its head is bright red.

6. Scarce Bamboo Page

While the scarce bamboo page butterfly appears to be primarily black with large neon green swathes, it also boasts delicate bands of dark red and white along its wings in addition to its major colors. This butterfly lives primarily in the rainforests of Central and South America.
