Researching extreme environments like active volcanoes is always tricky and dangerous, but Sam Cossman and his team came up with a very smart way to get this precious data. Equipped with high-quality cameras and drones, they managed to get enough information and photos to create a 3D model of the Marum Crater in Vanuatu, as well as gather samples of the surrounding rocks to investigate the presence of life forms.
For some people, a regular 9-5 job sitting at a desk in front of a computer screen just doesn’t quite cut it. These guys need something a little more…exciting. And with how close they need to be to these volcanoes, excitement is probably the least of their worries!
