The Okavango Delta is situated in northern Botswana. It’s known for its grassy plains, which flood seasonally, creating the ideal environment for a variety of animals, including hippopotamus, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, zebras, more than 400 species of birds, and lions.
The clip below if from the Smithsonian Special, “Lions in Battle.” Following the Xakanaxa lion pride, the audience is afforded the incredible opportunity of watching how the pride works together to overcome one of the area’s harshest seasons to date.
In the clip, we see how the territorial pride protects the carcass they’re feasting on from a group of nomadic lions who think they may be willing to share. Spoiler alert: they’re not!
