One of the most beautiful occurrences in nature is when a caterpillar metamorphs into its mature form — a beautiful, colorful butterfly.
When the caterpillar nears maturation, it forms a chrysalis around itself to aid in its transformation. Then, after some chemical and cellular processes, the outer shell clears and its butterfly wings show-through.
Over the next several hours, the butterfly emerges, dries and expands its wings, and eventually flutters away.
Thanks to photographer Neil Bromhall, we can watch a time-lapsed version of a mature monarch as it emerges from its chrysalis home, and leaves caterpillar-hood behind.
