The National Park Service Turns 100!
On August 25th, 1916, Woodrow Wilson signed the “Organic Act”, which created the National Park Service. This act states that “the Service thus established shall promote and regulate the use of the Federal areas known as national parks, monuments and reservations… which purpose is to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.”
Thanks to the National Park Service, we continue to enjoy the natural beauty of these spectacular destinations. Today, there are over 400 national parks in the United States, many more than the 35 in existence at the signing of the Organic Act.
