Otter Jumps Onto Fisherman’s Boat To Avoid Being Eaten By An Orca

A fisherman in Alaska was in for quite the surprise when a scared otter jumped onto his boat to avoid being eaten.

John Dornellas works with Coldwater Alaska in Kachemak Bay and along the Alaska Coastline. He spends tons of time in the water and on boats, but this was the first time he’s experienced such a surreal moment.

Dornellas took to Instagram to share about the experience saying:

“What an unreal experience. We took the engines out of gear about two hundred yards off and watched an otter come swimming full speed at my boat, the orca chasing behind. I have to say, this is not how I imagined how my morning would start.”

In the video, you can see an otter jumping on the boat at full speed. Just moments later, an orca whale surfaces inches from the boat.

The otter rests on the boat, waiting for the orca to swim a safe distance away before climbing back into the water.

It’s clear that the little critter just barely missed becoming a meal and it’s all thanks to Dornellas’ boat, it was possible to escape!
