A day at the beach is a great day. The sea, the weather, the sun – what’s not to love?

Whether you’re into relaxing on the sand or splashing around in the water, there is nothing better than spending a day by the sea with people you care about.

Miguel Angel Escobar and his family were on their boat when they made a surprising discovery on the shore. It was a sea turtle. It appeared as though the animal had become tangled up in some roots of a tree.

The large animal wasn’t moving at all. They assumed that it was deceased. Still, they went over to check, just in case, and when Miguel touched the turtle, he was shocked to find that she was still alive!

As he relayed to The Dodo, “When I touched her, she instantly let out a sigh and she started to move her head.”

Miguel knew that he couldn’t just leave her tangled in the tree, so he worked quickly to save her. He had a machete on him that he used to begin cutting at the roots around the trapped sea turtle. It took a little bit of time, but with enough effort, the turtle was finally free!

When freed from the tree, the turtle fell down into the sea. But there was still a slight problem. When she landed, she landed on her back. That is when Miguel had to help turn her right side around so that she could swim. Miguel gently grabbed her by her fliers and turned her over. It worked, and she was able to immediately begin her dive off into deeper waters.

Right after the turtle starts making her way back out to sea, Miguel’s wife states in the background, “Look at it go. ‘I’m alive.’ How beautiful. Saved!”

Miguel later added to The Dodo, “I thought that the turtle would need to rest on the shore and recover her strength. But she instantly swam away, strong and fast, like someone who was jumping for joy.”

After posting the video on social media, it went viral. There were so many people who applauded Miguel’s rescue of the sea turtle – and rightly so, sea turtles are endangered.

That means that Miguel’s actions didn’t just save the one sea turtle, but possibly other future generations too! And that is always a comforting thought.

Miguel, himself, who lives on the small Caribbean island Utila off the coast of Honduras, was quite happy that the turtle survived and he was able to help it back to sea.
