Plane Makes Emergency Landing After Snake Discovered Roaming Freely
A recent AirAsia flight recently made an emergency landing after a free-roaming snake caused panic among passengers.
The flight was from the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur to Tawau. Everything seemed to be going as planned until people begin to notice the shape of a serpent slithering in illuminated overhead compartments.
Footage of the snake was shared on TikTok by user @edal8808.
In the caption, he wrote (translated), “A snake was seen in a plane on a flight from KL to Tawau. The plane had to make an emergency landing at AirPort Kuching.”
At the time that he filmed the clip, it appears that the aircrew had not yet become aware of the snake. In the background, you can hear a flight attendant talking to passengers about lowering their tray tables – typical flight stuff.

Since sharing the clip, some people were skeptical if it were real at all, but an official with the airline confirmed the incident did happen.
According to CNN Turk, the airline’s chief security officer Liong Tien Ling said, “AirAsia is aware of the incident that occurred on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau on Thursday. As soon as the captain was notified, the plane was diverted to Kuching to be disinfected.”
He added that passengers were never in danger, noting, “This is a very rare incident which can occur on any aircraft from time to time.”
The viewed has been viewed over 2.6 million times on his TikTok alone and has since been shared to other platforms. While nothing dramatic happened over the snake (other than the emergency landing), people couldn’t help but compare it to the 2006 movie, Snakes on a Plane. The thriller, starring Samuel L. Jackson, featured a scene eerily similar to the clip from AirAsia, where a snake could be seen slithering in the overhead compartments. Thankfully, things didn’t end the same in real life as they did in the movie.
