The Strawberry Finches are similar in size to Sparrows. The female Strawberry Finches are brown and grey with random white markings. And the males are often quite similarly shaded to the females when they’re not in a mating season.
However, when mating season comes around, that is when the males undergo an incredible transformation where their plumage turns colors into the rich red tinge in order to help them attract a mate.
The red really makes their white spots pop, and given that they look like strawberries, that is where their nickname was derived from.
It is truly incredible what natural is capable of.
