Snorkeler Finds Lost Wedding Ring Trapped On Fish’s Body

Snorkeling is a lot of fun, and if you’ve never been, it’s well worth going. Even if you’re not big into swimming, just floating on the water and getting a peek under the surface is fascinating.

While I’ve been snorkeling in Hawaii and Florida, I’ve always wanted to go to other places like Thailand and Australia. One popular snorkeling spot is off the coast of Norfolk Island in Australia, where tourists often flock to see unique fish and amazing coral.

It seems one unlucky tourist lost his wedding band while snorkeling there, but it was amazingly discovered some months later!

Susan Prior was snorkeling off the coast of Norfolk Island in Australia when she spotted something unusual: a mullet fish with a ring wrapped around its body.

While fish are often the tragic victims of plastic beverage rings that are carelessly discarded, this ring looked different.

Prior shared two photos of the fish on Facebook, saying in the comments that she heard of a man losing his wedding band earlier in the year and wondered if perhaps it ended up trapped on the fish.

As it turns out, that’s exactly what happened. According to the DailyMail, Suize Quintal and her husband, Nathan Reeves, went snorkeling around Christmas time and the ring slipped off his finger into the water.

They thought the ring was lost forever, but months later they heard from Prior about the fish with the ring on its body.

It’s unclear if the fish was ever caught to have the ring removed, but Nathan was hopeful that someone would be able to retrieve the $1,000 ring from its body. As Prior shared in the comments of her Facebook post, the only way to get the ring off the fish’s body is to net it.
