Woman Overcomes Her Fear And Rescues A Giant Moth In Need

A woman who had a “huge fear of moths” overcame her fear when a giant moth “asked” her for help.

According to The Dodo, the moths started crawling towards Tala and she wasn’t the biggest fan of that.

Speaking with The Dodo, Tala said that the moth initially “scared the cr*p out of me,” but she soon realized that it needed help and it might not survive long without it.

So, setting her fear aside, Tala allowed the giant moth to climb off the ground and onto her arm. The wind kept pushing the moth over and it seems she was trying to get to higher ground by using Tala’s arm.

The moth stayed on Tala’s arm for the rest of the day and in the end, Tala had completely overcome her fear. In fact, she even started to see the moth as being adorable!

At nighttime, Tala placed the moth into a planter box where she’d be less susceptible to animals and other wildlife that might hurt her. However, when she went to check on the moth the next morning, she discovered a giant male moth had found her and they were mating!

With a thunderstorm approaching, Tala decided to move the moths indoors where they’d be protected from the rain and wind. The male moth had flown away so Tala just moved the female moth indoors and put her in a little insect tent. It was a nice place for a moth to stay warm and dry and out of the elements.

But alas, Tala knew she had to do the right thing and let the moth fly away into the wild. After the storm passed, Tala took the moth outside and let her fly away. She said, “That was the last time I saw her.”

It may have been the last time Tala saw the giant female moth, but it wouldn’t be the last time the moth asked her for help! While Tala was cleaning up the moth’s tent, she discovered that Tala had left her a gift: 200 eggs!

The moth had laid eggs “all over the tent” and Tala decided to raise the caterpillars and give them the best chance at surviving to adulthood.

“I felt like [the mother moth] meant for me to raise them,” she explained to The Dodo. After doing some research Tala learned that in the wild, only around 1 out of 100 caterpillars would survive to adulthood and Tala wanted to give them better odds than that.

Once the caterpillars had hatched from the eggs they began to eat, grow, and eventually, they built cocoons!

Almost all the caterpillars successfully hatched from their cocoons and turned into moths. Then, the day came to set them free. Tala hopes her story can encourage others to overcome their fears, especially when an opportunity arises to help others.
